Cape Nagasakibana is not the southernmost point in all of Kyushu, but it is the southernmost point on the Satsuma Peninsula. From the cape you can see Cape Sata on the other side of the peninsula and an incredible view of Mount Kaimon also known as “Satsuma Fuji” for its beautiful mountain scenery.
4. Recommended place to take photos
1. Beautiful view from Nagasakibana cape
From the cape, there is nothing to obstruct the view of Mount Kaimon and on a clear day, you can also see Yakushima Island and Iōjima floating in the ocean. In the summer it becomes a spawning ground for sea turtles. The cape also has the name “Ryugubana”, and Taro Urashima is said to have departed from this place for the Ryūgū-jō. It is also designated as Kirishima Kinkowan National Park. You definitely cannot miss this beautiful place.
2. Nagasakibana Lighthouse
At the cape, there is also the lighthouse “Satsuma Nagasakibana” with a height of 11 m, which was certified as the “Lighthouse of love” for the first time in the Prefecture. By going down the lighthouse stairs, you can take a walk along the volcanic rocky shoreline. There is a sidewalk so you can walk to the top.
3. Ryūgū Shrine
Legend has it that from this cape Taro Urashima left for the Ryūgū-jō 「竜宮城」 “underwater palace”, therefore the name of this Ryūgū-Jinja shrine (Ryūgū Shrine).
Here is the stone statue of Taro Urashima and a turtle, it is said that if the men go around the “left side” twice, the women “on the right side” and touch the turtle, they will meet their better half. Writing wishes or offerings on the shells is also very popular.
4. Recommended place to take photos in Nagasakibana
Very close to the stone statue of Taro Urashima and the turtle, is this magnificent view, in the background the sea and Mount Kaimon is the perfect complement to a photo that will remain for the memory.
